From the Pen of Inspiration...

"Nothing is apparently more helpless, yet more invincible, than the soul that feels its nothingness and relies wholly on the merits of the Savior.   By prayer, by the study of His word, by faith in His abiding presence, the weakest of human beings may live in contact with the living Christ, and He will hold them by a hand that will never let go." --MH 182

80M Doublet Antenna

A 52 mph wind gust tore my window-line feed line off of my old 80 M doublet finally forcing me to build the open wire ladder line I have been wanting for quite some time now.   After looking at the available choices for open wire ladder line and my savings resources... considering we needed the house resided... and checking my "junk box" I decided to build my own.   I used 12 ga black insulated wire and 1/2" black PVC waterline tubing I had left over from working on our water well 10 years ago.

It's lighter than it looks and when the wind blows does not whip around like that old window line did.   While I was at it I replaced the 16 ga antenna with the 12 ga wire.

My take on the famous Amplidan straight key

Modeled after the acclaimed Danish Amplidan marine key.   This long lever straight key uses ball race bearings, silver contacts and has the feel and action that is highly sought after.   An excellent handling key for CW operators and a joy for me to build.   I just had to make a QSL card of this key!

After seeing many fine keys made by others, I know I have a long way to go in my key making but the road is very enjoyable and I would encourage others to have a go. My GR-AMP-1 key is my second hand crafted key and my friend Bill, NT9K, gave me much encouragement.

 Here is the build process...

My first hand crafted radio telegrapher's key...

I have always enjoyed building things and a dream I've had for many years has been to design and build my own telegrapher's keys.  I have finally realized that dream in the completion of my first homebrew key.  It is a Single Lever Paddle / Sideswiper utilizing magnetic repulsion for lever centering and tension, silver contacts and a ball bearing lever pivot.  The action is smooth, gentle and very quiet.
